In 1954 two friends, Edward Cecil and Hubert Miller started a literary agency initially representing mainly journalists and academics. Operating from their offices in Mayfair's Curzon Street they soon built a thriving list of clients and successes soon followed. Notable early books included T.P.Bowyer's seminal work on Africa - 'The Dark Continent' (Harraps), Robin Mellow's biography of Churchill - 'Winston' (The Bodley Head) and the celebrated explorer (and Daily Sketch correspondent) Margarie Williams' 'Underfoot In Tibet' (John Murray Ltd). Under the tutelage of new arrival Thomas Barnikel the agency also developed a small children's fiction list which produced such favourites as 'Smartie the Clown' by David Eggs, 'Maurice and the Magic Box' by James Kilroy and Jeremy Craig's ever-popular 'Zoo-Tails' with illustrations by Adam Wilson R.A.
Hubert Miller left the company in 1967 and it was renamed The Edward Cecil Literary Agency and moved to new offices in Piccadilly where it remains today. It has retained a reputation for excellence in all fields and is delighted to have formed a recent association with the Jeremy Meinheim Agency in New York.
Daisy Frostjoined the company in 2004 and is now an Agent with a list combining award-winning literary fiction and highly commercial fiction and non-fiction.
